Plan home care costs with clearer questions.

Medicare may cover certain home health services when eligibility rules are met. That is different from ongoing personal care or a private caregiver’s schedule. Use this simple planner to estimate costs from numbers you already know, then confirm benefits and bills with the plan or provider.

What may Medicare cover at home?

Medicare coverage depends on the service, eligibility requirements and the person’s coverage. Original Medicare may cover certain part-time or intermittent skilled home health services when a person meets its conditions, including being homebound and needing qualifying skilled care ordered by a provider. Medicare.gov says eligible people pay nothing for covered home health services; covered durable medical equipment can have separate cost sharing.

Home health is not the same as any care delivered in a home. Medicare says it does not pay for 24-hour home care, meal delivery, homemaker services unrelated to the care plan, or custodial and personal care when that is the only care needed. Most long-term care is not covered by Medicare. Medicare Advantage plan benefits can differ, so check the specific plan.

Questions to ask before estimating a family’s share

For Original Medicare, review the current official coverage and cost details. If the person has Medicare Advantage, ask the plan directly because benefits and costs vary by plan.

Medicare and home care cost questions

Will Medicare pay for a caregiver at home?

It depends on the service and whether the person meets Medicare’s conditions. Eligible home health may include part-time or intermittent skilled services. Medicare does not pay for 24-hour home care or personal and custodial care when that is the only care needed. Ask the provider and plan about the exact services before arranging them.

Does Medicare cover ongoing help with bathing, dressing or meals?

Medicare.gov says it does not cover custodial or personal care when that is the only care needed, and it does not cover home-delivered meals. Coverage for skilled home health services has separate eligibility requirements.

Can this calculator tell me what Medicare will cover?

No. It multiplies the rate and hours you enter and subtracts only a monthly payment amount you say has already been confirmed. It does not evaluate any Medicare or insurance rule.

How do I estimate care costs when a plan has not confirmed payment?

Leave the confirmed-payment field blank to view the caregiver cost estimate before any payment amount. Contact the provider and plan to ask about coverage, service limits and possible costs; do not assume an unconfirmed payment will be made.

Expense monitoring is available in Kindoya Senior. Open Records → Spending to track paid amounts, confirmed bills still to pay, payer estimates and unknown costs separately, with monthly history and a current-month outlook. Follow the linked care events to Claims & Bills to review the underlying details.

Senior connects more than expenses: after you review and confirm proposed discharge changes, it intelligently applies them and automatically updates medication records and follow-up items. This supports ongoing care alongside expense monitoring; it does not determine insurance coverage or confirm what a bill will cost.

This free calculator helps you plan from numbers you enter. For ongoing expense monitoring from your care records, compare the optional Kindoya Senior plan.
